Everything You Need to Know About Diabetes

7. Very dry skin

Dry skin can be a symptom of diabetes. It may be caused by the body’s inability to retain moisture, or it may be due to other factors, including medication and aging.

Dry skin is common in people with diabetes, especially those who have had Type 1 diabetes for a long time or are taking oral medications like metformin (Glucophage) or insulin. The condition can make you itch and feel uncomfortable—and if left untreated can lead to infections such as staphylococcus Aureus (staph) and Candida albicans fungus infections

8. Sores that are slow to heal

  • Your immune system might not be working properly. This can make the body more vulnerable to infections, and it can also lead to a slower healing time for wounds.
  • You may have an underactive thyroid gland that makes your body produce too little or too much of a hormone called T4 (triiodothyronine). This is common in people who have diabetes or prediabetes, but it’s also associated with other health problems like obesity and high cholesterol levels.

9. More infections than usual (urinary tract infections)

One of the most common complications of diabetes is urinary tract infections. This can happen regardless of whether you’re on medications or not, but it’s more likely to occur if you have a high level of insulin in your blood.

Diabetes also makes it harder for your immune system to fight off germs and bacteria that enter your body through cuts or sores on the skin, which increases your risk of developing an infection like bladder cancer or kidney stones.

Conclusion

If you do have diabetes, it is important to remember that everyone reacts differently. There are many different types of insulin available today, so make sure you get the one that works best for you and your lifestyle.
